Know what it takes to enroll in an Executive MBA program; understand the personal sacrifices involved.

An Executive MBA (EMBA) is for anyone who wishes to enjoy better career options in life. Having an EMBA is like entering a door that leads to many other doors of opportunities, career growth, promotions, higher pay and an option to pursue a Doctorate degree someday. Below are a few details about what an EMBA is all about.

Executive MBA programs are designed to provide a more focused and specialized training and education for managers and executives. These people are already business leaders and industry movers, and yet they strive to improve themselves even more. EMBA courses are for students with leadership responsibilities and may have 10 years of work experience or more.

Although originally intended for executives, these programs are also offered to anyone who wishes to get a career upgrade, has the personal discipline necessary, is academically qualified, and financially capable. Although a career upgrade or promotions largely depend on one’s overall qualities, an MBA does help. EMBA graduates are qualified to take on higher level jobs with much better pay.

EMBA graduates typically apply for management and administrative positions. They will be held responsible over a team of people, the actions and performances of that team, and financial management.  EMBA programs train good leaders, good leaders train good team members, and having good team members make for a fruitful and rewarding career.

It takes a lot of discipline, though, to begin and finish a Master’s degree course of any kind, much more one that is specifically designed for executives. Executive MBA programs are typically scheduled in the evenings after regular working hours or on weekends. However, each student is expected to spend more hours in reading, research and assignment, and that means sacrificing family time and personal time.

A number of business schools now offer executive courses online. Distance learning allows students to be more flexible and in control. Yet, even an online course will not work if the student does not exercise discipline.

But discipline alone doesn’t make the cut. One has to be academically excellent and with enough work experience to qualify in an MBA program. Many business schools accept only students with higher GPA average than most people, very good communications skills, and not less than 10 years of work experience.

A few business schools and universities require enrollees to present academic transcripts and essays. They are also subjected to a battery of tests, as well as individual and panel interviews. The idea is to choose only those who truly are leaders and could potentially impact an organization.

Finally, entering school always means additional financial burden. Even the most qualified needs to be economically capable of entering a course for executives and paying the fees. Typically, such courses cost from $14000 to $25000 to complete.

As it is said, “You can only reap what you have sown.” It is difficult to expect career rewards and promotions if one has not invested in himself or herself. Entering an Executive MBA program is like sowing seeds of knowledge and skills for a bountiful career harvest in the future.
